About the Opportunity 
Young Health Service is seeking a VMO GP Hospitalist to provide comprehensive medical care across the Emergency Department, inpatient ward, oncology, infusion clinic, and Hospital in the Home. 

This senior hospitalist role offers the chance to: 

  • Deliver high-quality, patient-centred care in a dynamic rural setting. 

  • Lead daily ward rounds, manage admissions and discharges, and support emergency presentations. 

  • Supervise and mentor GP registrars, junior medical officers, and students. 

  • Collaborate with local GP VMOs and multidisciplinary teams to ensure continuity of care. 

  • Participate in an on-call roster and contribute to clinical leadership across the facility. 


     

We welcome applications from Rural Generalists with procedural skills in Obstetrics (DRANZCOG Adv) and Anaesthetics (JCCA/DRGA) 

About You: 
You’re a resilient and collaborative clinician who thrives in a fast-paced, rural hospital environment. You bring: 

  • MBBS or equivalent, with current registration as a Specialist GP or extensive senior experience in regional emergency medicine. 

  • Proven ability to manage acute and chronic conditions, perform urgent procedures, and lead resuscitation and trauma care. 

  • A commitment to clinical excellence, education, and quality improvement. 

  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with a passion for mentoring and teamwork. 

  • Willingness to participate in on-call duties and support other MLHD sites as needed.

  1. Holds MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist General Practitioner or holds general registration and substantial experience of at least 7 years of working as a senior medical officer in a regional or rural NSW emergency medicine department and meets Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements as a GP.
  2. Knowledge of contemporary clinical management and modern approaches in assessment and management of the broad range of acute and chronic medical conditions. Competence in performing the range of minor urgent procedures commonly undertaken in a rural emergency department including Advanced Life Support and Trauma management.
  3. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and provide leadership of a team.
  4. Demonstrated commitment to teaching, continuing education, and research and quality improvement.
  5. Availability to participate in an on-call roster and to respond on site within a reasonable time.
  6. Demonstrated commitment to behaviours which align to the NSW Health CORE values and MLHD Values, goals and strategies.
