About the Opportunity

As the Clinical Nurse Consultant, Violence, MHECS you will provide advanced clinical leadership and consultancy, research, education and service planning for both the Mental Health Emergency Consultation Service, in Wagga, Deniliquin and Corowa. The role will provide clinical leadership, supervision and mentoring for the MHECS clinicians to ensure the service provides high quality, timely consultation and advice, assessment and support of MH consumers presenting to ED's.

 

As the Clinical Nurse Consultant, you will:

  • Be responsible for providing an expert consultative service to 32 Emergency Departments (EDs) including Base Hospitals, District Hospitals and Multi-Purpose Services and operate in collaboration with the Mental Health Emergency Consultation Service (MHECS) based in Wagga Wagga.

  • Provide clinical leadership, supervision and mentoring for the MHECS clinicians to ensure the service provides high quality, timely consultation and advice, assessment and support of MH consumers presenting to ED's.

  • Be responsible for leading and modelling the delivery of complex specialist mental health emergency nursing care and the development of specialist clinical practice and service delivery to provide effective quality care for consumers presenting to EDs.

  • Under the domains of Clinical Service and Consultancy, Clinical Leadership, Research, Education and Clinical Services Planning. The CNC 2 will develop capacity for the safe and effective management of consumers presenting to EDs with mental distress.

  • The CNCs will work in partnership with consumers and carers, utilising consumer and carer feedback to improve service quality and safety and consumer satisfaction and to identify, plan and participate in delivery the of education sessions.

About You

Our ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • Current Authority to Practice as an RN with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APHRA) together with at least 5 years, experience in acute mental health nursing and holding or working towards post graduate nursing qualifications in Mental Health.

  • Demonstrated ability to think critically, problem solve and make timely decisions whilst working autonomously.

  • Demonstrated excellent understanding of issues related to providing Mental Health Services in Emergency Departments with the capacity to negotiate complex issues with professionals across a range of services.

  • Demonstrated understanding of capacity building and practice development.

  • Demonstrated clinical expertise and proven ability to provide clinical leadership in the provision and development of clinical practice utilising evidence based research.

  • Able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including written, verbal and computer skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.

  • Proven ability to provide consultancy support to nurses, multidisciplinary teams including medical staff.

  • Evidence of a current Class C drivers licence and ability and willingness to travel for work purposes. This may involve driving long distances within the MLHD
