About the opportunity
An exciting opportunity for an enrolled student to gain experience working in a busy Medical Pathology Laboratory.

You will be working in Pathology at Gosford Hospital situated on the beautiful Central Coast providing pathology services to the local hospitals and community. You will rotate through the Core laboratory gaining experience in Clinical Chemistry, Haematology and Microbiology.

What you'll be doing
Learn and practise basic laboratory work in a pathology setting in conjunction with completing an  approved University program in pathology or laboratory medicine.

This position is suitable for an undergraduate student who is studying part time in a Pathology related university degree course and is only available while the incumbent is still studying in the appropriate course.

Under supervision perform a range of laboratory support and/or specimen reception services and/or collection services, and provide assistance to laboratory staff, to deliver a patient focused service.

  1. Current enrolment in a relevant science degree (pathology or medical laboratory science, with subjects relevant to pathology) with a minimum of one year full-time equivalent study to complete.
  2. Willingness to learn all aspects of the laboratory environment relevant to the laboratory.
  3. Demonstrated verbal and written communication and consultation skills.
  4. Demonstrated ability to work co-operatively in a values based team environment to achieve quality outcomes.
  5. Excellent data entry skills including high attention to detail and data accuracy.
  6. Awareness of legislation, policies and requirements relevant to a pathology laboratory setting.
