Cessnock is located only a short distance away from the Hunter Valley vineyards and is the administrative centre of the City of Cessnock Local Government Area. It is a vibrant town, surrounded by countryside and full of affordable dinning and accommodation and home to the Cessnock District Hospital. It is a 64-bed facility that provides emergency, surgical and general medical care to the area’s growing population. We have an exciting opportunity for a dedicated Telephonist to join our Administration team.


About the role: 
The purpose of the position is to answer incoming and outgoing calls within a hospital environment and perform paging of emergency groups for e.g. cardiac arrest and trauma groups. In addition, this role is required to perform routine clerical duties and provide an effective, efficient, timely and courteous service to patients, visitors, the public and staff.

Part-time/job share arrangements will also be considered.


We are looking for someone who has:

  • Experience in the operation of hospital switchboards and paging systems.
  • Demonstrated experience assisting the public, staff and clients in a high-volume environment with the ability to provide assistance in a polite, clear, well-spoken and calm manner in all circumstances.
  • The ability to work on a rotating roster, demonstrating a flexible work attitude.
