Social Worker (Level 4) - Oncology Team Leader - Prince of Wales Hospital, Randwick



The Role

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated social worker to join the Social Work Department at Prince of Wales Hospital as the Level 4 Oncology Team Leader. You will be part of a large, dedicated and highly skilled department working with culturally and socially diverse patients and their families. You will be providing supervision and leadership to the passionate and committed social workers in the Oncology Team. The Oncology Team Leader will manage areas in oncology inpatient/outpatient, palliative care, specialist and general surgical, respiratory, infectious diseases, and varying outpatient clinics. Prince of Wales Hospital is a 440 bed tertiary referral facility with specialties unique to this campus such as spinal cord injuries and interventional neuroradiology. With the opening of a new Acute Service Building, Prince of Wales Hospital provides state of the art modern facilities aimed at providing an exceptional staff experience and enhanced patient and family outcomes. It includes an expanded Emergency Department and Intensive Care Units, a Community Management Centre, and replacement of multiple existing inpatient wards with contemporary facilities. There will also be new research, education and training spaces, including additional spaces funded by UNSW Sydney, to enable clinical innovation and research, biomedical engineering, and clinical translational research laboratories collocated directly alongside clinical staff providing acute healthcare services. 
The hospital is accessible via a light rail service which stops right outside the main entrance, along with a range of bus services. Offering impressive beaches and coastal walks coupled with boutique restaurants, transport links and a vibrant nightlife, you’ll never be short of things to do in this progressive community. 

The Level 4 Social Work Team Leader has a recognised clinical specialty and works in an area that requires high levels of clinical expertise and knowledge. They are able to provide clinical services to patients, their families and carers with circumstances of a complex nature requiring advanced practice skills.

The Level 4 Social Work Team Leader is able to demonstrate advanced reasoning skills and operates autonomously with minimum direct clinical supervision. They are involved with planning, implementation, evaluation and reporting on clinical services in a particular specialty and are involved in the implementation of SESLHD protocols, initiatives, policies and procedures.

The Level 4 Social Work Team Leader is responsible for the clinical supervision and support of Levels 1, 2 and 3 Social Workers and Social Work students.

The Level 4 Social Work Team Leader has a consultative role within their clincial specialty. They may also conduct clinical research and participate in the provision of clinical in-service education programs to staff and students.

The Level 4 Social Work Team Leader may assist in operational/supervisory responsibilities under the direction of the Head of Social Work, and may be required to manage specific tasks or projects, particularly in their absence.

  1. Bachelor of Social Work and eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Work (AASW).
  2. Extensive post graduate relevant clinical experience.
  3. Demonstrated experience in management and team leadership, including experience in staff and student supervision.
  4. Experience in developing and implementing policies and procedures for service improvement and skills in providing training and education.
  5. Well-developed time management skills with excellent written and verbal communication, including report writing skills.
  6. Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  7. Knowledge of quality improvement and service evaluation processes.
  8. Current drivers licence (or a willingness to travel in accordance with the demands of the position) and the ability to participate in the After Hours Crisis On-Call service, and work across a seven day roster (including weekends)
