The Opportunity

This is a role provides a unique opportunity for a clinician, as part of a new team, to contribute to evidence to improve client outcomes and care for people with AOD concerns.  The In Reach/Outreach/Brief Intervention (IOBI) multidisciplinary team will provide counselling and brief intervention for clients seeking support for AOD concerns and will also provide in reach and outreach services.  The In-Reach component will bring the team’s community expertise into the hospital care setting.  The outreach component will work with individuals with ongoing AOD issues who have had experiences that have impacted them to engage with services.

Provide an effective and efficient Social Work/Counselling/Psychologist service that addresses the psychosocial aspects of care for people receiving substance use treatment.  To actively participate and contribute to the continued development of the clinical role in the AOD service utilizing the principles of Trauma Informed and Client Centred Care.

This role, as part of the IOBI AOD Team, provides a unique opportunity to collaborate within a multidisciplinary team, with a commitment to providing individualized treatment using feedback to informed clinical care.

About you

We are looking for someone who has qualifications for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers, or qualifications eligible for registration with the Psychology Board of Australia or a bachelor’s degree in counselling.

The Organisation

The Mid North Coast Local Health District (MNCLHD) is a government funded health organization that covers an area of 11,335 square kilometers extending from Port Macquarie in the south to Coffs Harbour in the north.  MNCLHD provides a diverse range of services to a population of approximately 215,000 people.  It has a workforce of 4,694 across seven hospitals sites and 12 Community Health Centres.

A TALENT POOL MAY BE CREATED FOR FUTURE ROLES AND WILL REMAIN VALID FOR 18 MONTHS.






  1. Qualifications eligible for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers; or qualifications eligible for registration with the Psychology Board of Australia; or a bachelor's degree in counselling or related field, or other qualification deemed equivalent by the employer.
  2. Demonstrated current clinical knowledge, skills and ability to effectively assess, provide counselling and formulate treatment plans utilising the principles of trauma informed care in substance use disorders.
  3. Demonstrated excellence in completing psychosocial assessments, planning and intervention for complex patient/family presentations in the health context.
  4. Demonstrated ability to facilitate interagency meetings to coordinate care planning for complex patients.
  5. Demonstrated commitment and highly developed skills in working autonomously and within a team approach, alongside other disciplines and the broader community on alcohol and other drugs issues.
  6. Demonstrated ability to participate in and evaluate quality improvement initiatives, research, and service development processes.
  7. Demonstrated excellence in verbal, written and computer skills, and ability to manage a significant workload
  8. Current NSW Drivers’ License and willingness to travel.
