 An opportunity exists to apply for the position of SESLHD Recovery and Wellbeing College Senior Peer learning Advisor.

The Recovery and Wellbeing College is an innovative Mental Health program, aiming to provide recovery-oriented adult education and individual learning support to students, carers, staff,  and the general community. The Senior Peer Learning Advisor has a District wide coordinating role incorporating lived experience in the development and implementation of the College learning processes, partnerships , promotion and improvements. The role leads and supervises staff, including learning advisors and peer educators and works closely with managers and clinicians. The Senior Peer Learning Advisor draws upon their lived experience of mental health challenges and their personal recovery journey to promote and advocate for transformative education, which consequently impacts service culture, and the delivery of mental health care.

Staff are also provided with orientation and support and Job sharing will be considered.

Where and When you'll be working

The Recovery and Wellbeing College is open 8.30am – 4.30pm Monday to Friday and located in the community at Kogarah.

Selection Criteria: 

To be considered for this position, please ensure you address the below questions as thoroughly as possible.

  1. Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or willingness and commitment to obtain, with extensive experience as a lived experience peer worker within Mental Health Services including personal lived experience as a consumer of mental health services, with demonstrated ability to utilise this experience in providing training and educational services. For Graduate Health Education Officer, additional relevant health or education degree required.
  2. Demonstrated understanding of mental health Recovery Framework, and extensive experience in collaborating, developing and co delivering education to people utilising mental health services.
  3. Experience in the supervision and mentoring of staff including those from a lived experience workforce.
  4. Demonstrated ability to lead and increase the participation of people with lived experience in the planning and designing of services which are trauma informed and evidence based
  5. Experience in collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to lead and implement quality improvement projects
  6. Demonstrated experience in planning and coordinating health promotion events, projects or activities that promote mental health education, wellbeing, and awareness of services.
  7. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills including negotiation, advocacy and conflict resolution.
  8. Current drivers licence (or a willingness to travel in accordance with the demands of the position).
