Agency Overview


System Performance Support works in close partnership with health service executives, senior managers, and clinicians in collaboration with other Ministry of Health and health pillar staff to support the performance of health services.


The branch provides expert advice on issues that may impact on health system performance, identifies opportunities for performance improvement, promotes the implementation of state-wide patient flow initiatives that improve and enhance the delivery of high quality, efficient and effective health services for the NSW community.


The Connected Care team has a pivotal role in supporting and delivering initiatives/programs relating to collaborative care in the home, community and virtual settings. A key priority is the development and implementation of the NSW Health Virtual Care Strategy.

About this role


Virtual Care is a key reform supporting NSW Health’s vision of a sustainable health system that delivers outcomes that matter to patients, is personalised, invests in wellness and is digitally enabled. Virtual care will support NSW Health’s vision by safely incorporating new technologies into the suite of healthcare options available to consumers and clinicians.


The Senior Manager, Connected Care will lead the team in partnership with Local Hospital Districts (LHDs), Specialty Health Networks (SHN), NSW pillars and Ministry of Health stakeholders to implement the NSW Health Virtual Care Strategy and Emergency Department (ED) Reform Initiatives. The Senior Manager will seek to bring technical, clinical and policy teams together in a cohesive way and collaborate with key stakeholders, local health districts and networks, clinicians and consumers.


The Senior Manager provides strategic advice to the Director, Connected Care on current, evolving or emerging strategic reforms relating to Virtual Care. The Senior Manager is responsible for the leading the Virtual Care team to meet strategic and business objectives according to the NSW Virtual Care Strategy and ED Reform Initiative. The Connected Care team is accountable for a range of functions across the health system to deliver on these priorities, including transformation planning, implementation support, program monitoring and improvements, and capability development.


This role will inform future program design to facilitate improvements in the level and quality of virtual health service delivery across NSW Health. The Senior Manager will liaise, engage, consult and negotiate with key internal and external stakeholders and support all participating LHDs and SHNs in continuous improvement based on robust evidence to determine benefits for patients, providers and the system.

Selection Criteria

  1. Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline or equivalent; and extensive experience and record of achievement in leading, driving and managing state-wide or large-scale health improvement strategies.
  2. Demonstrated superior stakeholder management, influencing and negotiation skills including extensive experience leading, motivating and negotiating at senior levels; actively developing strategic partnerships; and engaging key stakeholders to adopt and implement initiatives.
  3. Demonstrated high level knowledge and extensive experience in health care and operational health service management.
  4. Demonstrated understanding and working knowledge of health service operations and health priority areas, particularly virtual care models, and related health policy at state and national levels.
  5. Superior analytical skills and demonstrated ability to interpret complex information rapidly and accurately and provide innovative solutions to complex issues.
  6. Proven experience contributing to and promoting strategic initiatives including leading, developing and managing complex change at a large scale or state-wide level; provision of authoritative strategic advice; project management; and, implementation of continuous improvement initiatives.
  7. Demonstrated leadership skills including extensive experience developing, managing and supporting multidisciplinary teams from multiple settings, monitoring and ensuring achievement of performance objectives, coaching and advising staff, and fostering a collegial, professional work environment.
  8. Superior interpersonal and communication skills including proven ability to manage people at all levels from a wide-range of professional backgrounds to achieve optimal business outcomes.
