The role of the Urology Radiotherapy Cancer Nurse Coordinator (CNC2) is to provide specialist nursing care, information, education and support to patients and their relatives/carers diagnosed with Urological cancer.

Where you'll be working


The position sits alongside existing Cancer Nurse Coordinators. The Urology Radiotherapy Cancer Nurse Coordinator is a highly skilled and motivated practitioner who will utilise expert skills, knowledge, and experience to work as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team according to the complexity of care required and the individual need of the patients in their care. Workload will be mainly self-generated, and this will be achieved through extensive interdisciplinary collaboration between primary and tertiary health.

What you'll be doing
  • The Cancer Nurse Coordinator is responsible for the provision of safe high quality patient centred care to cancer patients requiring care coordination. This will be achieved through the exercise of advanced nursing skills, professional knowledge and judgement to provide a high standard of patient assessment, care planning, expert advice and education support to patients, family and carers.
  • The Cancer Nurse Coordinator will facilitate the continuity and quality of care for patients diagnosed with cancer. The role will vary according to the tumour type (or types) and the complexity of care required based on the needs of individual patients under their care.
  • Consistent with the strategic directions of the Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD) Clinical Services Plan the Cancer Nurse Coordinator has a leadership role in the development, provision of evidence based nursing clinical practice related to Cancer care Coordination.
  • While working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, the Cancer Nurse Coordinator will act as a clinical expert, professional role model and change agent to promote practice development and quality initiatives that promote the delivery of safe, efficient and high quality care in Cancer Nursing
  • As an employee of NSLHD you may be required to work across tumour streams in line with operational requirements of the service.
  • The Cancer Nurse Coordinator must fulfil the five domains of the outlined Functional/Operational/Clinical position requirements.

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

  1. Consistently demonstrates behaviours that reinforce the CORE Values of our organisation; Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment. Demonstrates these behaviours with all stakeholders; colleagues, direct reports, as well as our patients and consumers, and those that care for them.
  2. A registered nurse who has a minimum of 5 years full time post graduate experience, with at least 3 years full time equivalent experience in Cancer Nursing. In addition the applicant must have an approved post graduate qualification (minimum Grad Diploma/Certificate level) or evidence of working towards Masters level qualification, relevant to Cancer Nursing.
  3. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and contribute nursing expertise to the improvement of care within a multidisciplinary care team.
  4. Demonstrated experience utilising knowledge and advanced nursing skills in the assessment, care planning and provision of safe clinical care for patients with needs related to Cancer.
  5. Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement through the use of evidence to evaluate care and implement change.
  6. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Demonstrated excellent collaborative, leadership and teaching skills.
