What you'll be doing
The Mental Health Clinical Nurse Consultant, Grade 1 (CNC1) provides an expert mental health assessment and initial intervention service to individuals of all ages presenting to the Emergency Department (ED) at Royal North Shore Hospital (RNSH).
The CNC will be responsible for conducting a comprehensive mental health assessment for persons presenting to the RNSH ED who are experiencing mental health issues, The CNC, in partnership with the ED staff and relevant mental health staff will determine a plan of care which may be discharge back to the community with clearly documented and communicated follow up or facilitate an admission to the mental health inpatient unit.
This position will be responsible for the management of patient flow for mental health in the ED and proactively assist with ensuring that Emergency Treatment Performance (ETP) Targets are met.
The Clinical Nurse Consultant will promote a mental health nursing service that fosters excellence in clinical, educational and professional leadership, both within ED and the Mental Health Inpatient Units, The Clinical Nurse Consultant contributes to quality health care by collaborating with health care providers, consumer groups, and other community services by developing clinical practice and family orientated standards in emergency and acute mental health care.
The Clinical Nurse Consultant will demonstrate a high knowledge of quality improvement principles, EEO and WH&S requirements
People of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background are encouraged to apply.
Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:
- Current unrestricted registration with AHPRA as a registered nurses and at least 5 years full time equivalent post graduate experience and approved post registration nursing qualifications relevant to the clinical area.
- Demonstrated ability to initiate and lead evidence based nursing clinical practice in the assessment, care planning and care delivery of people with complex mental health issues in an acute setting.
- Proven ability to provide clinical leadership to Emergency Department and Generalist clinicians in the management of mental health patients with demonstrated high level ability to network and communicate across a range of internal and external key partners.
