About the Opportunity
The Youth Health Services (YHS) counsellor role provides counselling services and case management to vulnerable and marganilised young people 12 to 24 years of age.

The main emphasis is on assessment and early therapeutic intervention in a non judgemental, developmentally appropriate and supportive manner.

In this role, you will have direct client contact assessing, formulating and treating young people with psychosocial issues. This is done within a supportive multidisciplinary team comprising of social workers, psychologists, registered nurses, health education officers and Aboriginal Health Workers. 

We have an in-reach/outreach model to ensure we engage our clients in an environment that is suitable and accessible for them.

We also work in partnership with other government and non-government organisations to ensure positive outcomes for the young person.

There are two positions, one based in Bankstown and the other in Fairfield. Outreach across the South Western Sydney may be required. 

 

What You'll be Doing
To deliver evidence-based psychological assessments and interventions in order to address the needs of consumers who are living with a wide range of behavioural and emotional disorders.

The role also participates in the evaluation of clinical outcomes of services and assists in the development

and provision of education and training programs. Additionally, the role supervises Psychologists and other disciplines working within the LHD according to organisational needs.

How to Apply

  1. Full registration as a Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia and Completion of a four-year sequence of accredited undergraduate study in the discipline of psychology (or equivalent completed overseas). 
  2. Demonstrated effective experience in assessment, intervention and evaluation of clinical outcomes with diverse patient and/or consumer populations.
  3. Demonstrated experience working independently in the provision of patient/consumer-focused care.
  4. Demonstrated knowledge of the quality improvement process for service development, implementation and evaluation.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team to accomplish service goals and improved patient and/or consumer care and outcomes.
  6. Demonstrated high level verbal and written communication skills with the ability to adapt communication style to suit the target audience.
  7. Applicants must possess an Australian C-Class driver's license (including P1 or P2). Those who hold a C class license (P1 or P2 included) from a state other than NSW must obtain a NSW C class (P1 or P2 included) license within three months of appointment. Learner's licenses are not permitted.
