  • Proximity to shopping and other services
  • ADO's each month (for full time employees)
  • Salary packaging options

  • Opportunity to work and collaborate with a range of non-clinical and clinical professionals

About the role:

This dynamic role will see you enjoy a varied caseload, with an established roster as below:

Monday and Wednesday: Outpatient assignment. Monday is a combination of physiotherapy only hand patients and the Orthopaedic / Fracture clinic, whilst Wednesday is predominantly physio only hand patients. The outpatient service often requires support in Orthopaedic Clinics which is negotiated across the service as required.

Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday: Ward based, across Surgical, Maternity and Paediatric. You will be working as the lead of our junior level 1 and senior level 2 staff. There is a supportive educational focus within the team, and our designated Paediatric Outpatient Physiotherapist is available on Fridays for clinical advice as required.

In addition, we are currently implementing Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) practice for total knee replacement patients - this role will lead this project as it becomes embedded in practice.

The position is supported by the Level 6 Physiotherapist - Line Manager and the other senior staff in the Lower Hunter Physiotherapy service. We also have strong professional links with staff at Kurri Kurri and Cessnock hospitals.

You will have access to relevant professional development opportunities, as well as a department inservice programme monthly session.

Where you’ll be working:

The Maitland Hospital is a new green field hospital relocated to Metford NSW in 2021, with a level 5 inpatient and associated outpatient service. The hospital is home to a busy Orthopaedic service, with 9 consultants - including specialties in hands, ankles, feet, and shoulders, as well as more general elective and trauma. We also have subspecialty areas in the Physiotherapy service, including ICU and ED.

This position has multiple clinical and supervision requirements on the wards, as well as the Outpatient Hand Clinic and Orthopaedic / Fracture clinics. The latter occurs across 4 days per week, with likely expansion required. Seven-day service has been newly established for wards / ED with designated staffing.

Our skilled multidisciplinary team are friendly and supportive, with a strong focus on providing patient focused care and outcomes. We are progressive and able to adapt to new clinical practice efficiently and enthusiastically, whilst ensuring patient care remains central to any decisions.

About You:

Skills in splinting and casting are essential for this role, as well as having knowledge and confidence in your scope of practice. You will demonstrate commitment to a continuous learning path relevant to your assigned caseload, and will demonstrate attributes conducive to the effective supervision, communication, and guidance of less skilled staff.

Requirements:

  • Physiotherapist with current Authority to Practice with AHPRA
