Nepean Hospital is a teaching hospital that provides tertiary referral services in emergency care, coronary care, diagnostics, gynaecology, paediatric, neonatal intensive care/ICU, maternity, mental health, rehabilitation, and surgery. Our brand new Emergency Department at Nepean Hospital is now open and looking for a Nurse Unit Manager, Level 2 to join our community. Our positive and innovative environment will offer many opportunities and career pathways whilst being supported by an experienced and dedicated team consisting of a Nurse Manager, NUM's, Nurse Practitioners, CNC's, CNE, CNS's and RN's.


Your role as the Nurse Unit Manager will see you lead, direct and co-ordinate patient or client care; ensure the practice of nursing is safe and efficient, maintaining standards of care through continual quality improvement initiatives. This position will see you co-ordinate the nursing and multi-disciplinary care team at the ward or unit level, and monitor and manage the business and management functions and processes of the ward or unit. 

As the leader of the unit, the NUM will demonstrate their capability through attitude, skills, behaviour and attributes such as broad experience and knowledge nursing clinical indicators. Your understanding and acceptance that patients are the central focus of service delivery; professional integrity; ethical conduct; accountability; advocacy; enabling others; Cultivation of collaborative relationships and effective team work; commitment to advancing the profession of nursing/midwifery and care provision.

What you will bring to the role:

  1. Current registration with AHPRA as Division 1 Registered Nurse / Midwife
  2. Relevant postgraduate qualifications in Emergency Nursing or management or working towards attainment
  3. Demonstrated skills in quality improvement/redesign projects and the associated change management
  4. Proven ability to Lead, motivate, manage and develop nursing/midwifery staff to maintain a positive workplace culture
  5. Proven ability to assess nursing/midwifery utilisation and resource requirements within agreed targets and roster formulation
  6. Demonstrated excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, and demonstrated ability to negotiate and manage conflict
  7. Highly developed computer and demonstrated financial skills with an ability to interpret financial reports and build effective rostering systems
