Are you a dynamic leader with a passion for person-centred orthopaedic care? We’re looking for an experienced and motivated Nursing Unit Manager (NUM) to join our Orthopaedics team!
Where You'll Be Working:
Prince of Wales Hospital and Community Health Service is a Level 6 Tertiary Referral Hospital with an inpatient bed base of 370. Each year we care for more than 70,000 patients in our Emergency Department and have around 50,000 admissions to the inpatient units. POWH offers an outpatient service and rural outreach service and provides more than 900,000 occasions of non-admitted patient care each year, including innovative virtual models of care. We have transitioned the majority of inpatient units and wards to the Acute Services Building (ASB) including a state of the art Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit. As a Nursing Unit Manager in SESLHD you will be in charge of the Orthopaedic ward at Prince of Wales Hospital. As the Nursing Unit Manager you will serve a pivotal role as a visible leader and role model for nurses across SESLHD. You will set the clinical standards for the Orthopaedic ward. Your role is diverse and dynamic, focusing on supporting nurses and midwives to deliver safe, high-quality care. As the Nursing Unit Manager of Orthopaedics you will be responsible for coordinating the patient services, managing the unit and managing the nursing staff. To achieve this, you will empower and motivate your team, coordinate and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and identify and improve workforce factors to provide enhanced patient outcomes. As the Nursing Unit Manager you will utilise your extensive experience and/or qualifications to provide leadership and direction for quality improvement and clinical service standards; lead skill development in coaching, clinical supervision and leadership; act as a role model, be responsible for engaging with staff, carers, patients and consumers to facilitate, support, and evaluate practice change related to patient care, fostering excellence in clinical, educational and professional leadership. You will be part of a team that strives to support each other to reach our potential, focus on what matters most and continue to be innovative in approaches to practice.

Selection Criteria:
- Registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse.
- Relevant management tertiary qualification or equivalent work experience, or a combination of study and work experience with a demonstrated commitment to professional development.
- Proven clinical leadership skills and an ability to lead a team with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in nursing practice and person-centred practice.
- Demonstrated ability to analyse verbal and written communication and make decisions or inferences from the data, including an ability to analyse complex numerical data and draw logical conclusions.
- Demonstrated experience in the management of quality and safety processes, including the ability to analyse patterns and trends within new or unique sets of data.
- Demonstrated evidence of the use of critical thinking as it relates to the delivery of advanced evidenced based nursing care.
- Demonstrated experience in leading and implementing change and developing direction in clinical practice within a person-centred framework, including an ability to recognise, understand and influence own and others’ emotions.
- Leadership experience in the initiation and development of team goals and plans, and the use of feedback to inform future planning.
