The Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District Drug and Alcohol Service offers free, non-judgemental services and treatments for drug and/or alcohol use, including information and support for families. Our service offers specialist drug and alcohol doctors, nurses and allied health staff who respect the client's right to choose from a range of treatments offered with our services underpinned by a philosophy of harm reduction. 

What you’ll be doing:

Using innovative, evidence-based skills and interventions, you will professionally support individuals seeking assistance with alcohol and drug use. You will take a trauma-informed approach and provide respectful, person-centred care, tailored to each individual’s needs. Central to your role will be employing an individualised, holistic approach to care, incorporating comprehensive care planning to address the diverse physical, emotional, and social aspects of each person’s journey.

The Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (NP) / Transitional Nurse Practitioner (TNP) is a registered nurse educated and authorised to function autonomously and collaboratively in an advanced and extended clinical role. The NP Role is grounded in the nursing professions values, knowledge, theories and practice and provides innovative and flexible health care delivery that complements other health care providers. The successful incumbent will utilize their expertise and skills and assess and manage consumers with mental illness and substance use disorders and make referrals to other appropriate health care professionals, prescribe medications and order diagnostic investigations.  

Your contribution as a healthcare professional will have a meaningful and positive impact, which is felt at a community level.

Criteria:

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

  1. Registered Nurse Division 1 with AHPRA including endorsement as a Nurse Practitioner or working towards same as per the NMBA Guidelines on endorsement as a Nurse Practitioner, with evidence of eligibility to attain authorisation within 2 years. Post graduate qualifications at Master’s Level, in a NMBA approved program of study or relevant clinical specialty, or working towards.
  2. Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills and proven problem-solving ability within a clinical setting.
