Where you'll be working
Prince of Wales Hospital and Community Health Service is a Level 6 Tertiary Referral Hospital with an inpatient bed base of 370. Each year we care for more than 70,000 patients in our Emergency Department and have around 50,000 admissions to the inpatient units. POWH offers an outpatient service and rural outreach service and provides more than 900,000 occasions of non-admitted patient care each year, including innovative virtual models of care. We have transitioned the majority of inpatient units and wards to the Acute Services Building (ASB) including a state of the art Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit. What you'll be doing
The Nursing and Midwifery – Our Strategy for Transforming Person Centred Cultures 2024-2029 guides our profession in the development of effective person-centred practice and healthful cultures within SESLHD. We advocate for shared decision-making, collaborative relationships, compassionate and person-centred leadership, and supporting innovative practices.
The nursing vision for Prince of Wales Hospital is ‘Transforming Person-Centred Care Together’. This approach to all nursing practices ensures we collaborate together on all aspects of healthcare, inclusive of staff, placing the person at the centre of shared decision making underpinned by respect, mutual understanding and facilitated choice.
The Nurse Manager Emergency Department works in collaboration with the Director Emergency Department to support the daily operational activities within the Emergency Department (ED). As a senior nurse manager, the incumbent has responsibilities in clinical and corporate governance, operational and strategic management, service planning, clinical innovation and risk management.
The Nurse Manager ED, in consultation with the Nursing Co-director ESCM, contributes towards the delivery of safe quality clinical services through the effective leadership and management of the allocated resources within the department. The position holder contributes towards effective patient care coordination and clinical redesign, and is actively engaged in department and facility based initiatives which contributes towards meeting key targets. This includes Emergency Treatment Performance (ETP) targets, Transfer of Care targets (TOC), and Emergency Triage targets.
In collaboration with the Nursing Co-director ESCM the incumbent is responsible for the leadership and management of the nursing and associated workforce within the Emergency Department. This includes recruitment, transitioning and retention of staff, career development and succession planning, professional learning and development, and the safe and effective utilisation of staffing through appropriate skill mix, patient allocations and models of care.
The Nurse Manager has a professional reporting structure to the DON via the Nursing Co Director ESCM and is an active member of the Nursing Governance Structure through engagement and participation on Nursing Councils.
- Registered Nurse who holds current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA)
- Recognised tertiary management qualifications or working towards same, and evidence of recent professional development to further enhance leadership and management competencies
- Demonstrated experience in the application of change management principles and achievement of measurable outcomes
- Recent broad clinical, operational and strategic experience at a senior level within a complex health care environment, with an ability to function as part of a senior management team working successfully with other professionals and disciplines in the management of health care services
- Demonstrated effective verbal, written and negotiation skills with an aptitude to utilize relevant information technology platforms and ability to provide clear and concise plans and reports
- Demonstrated ability to identify, evaluate and incorporate where appropriate emerging trends within the clinical practice and the profession of nursing
- Evidence of experience in financial management
- Sound knowledge of current Emergency Nursing practices, its delivery and models of care and the ability to motivate, inspire and lead staff to achieve service and professional goals
