Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above position in the Nepean Blue Mountains (Local Health District (NBMLHD). This is a permanent position that is expected to commence from 10.02.2025. The position will be primarily located at Nepean Hospital within the Department of Renal Medicine and the successful applicant will be part of the Western Renal Service, which is networked across NBMLHD and Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD) to provide transplantation, dialysis, and renal supportive care services in the two Districts. In addition, Nepean Hospital is a hub for providing education and mentorship in renal supportive care to WSLHD, South Western Sydney LHD, Murrumbidgee LHD and Southern NSW LHDs.

The appointee will provide both inpatient and outpatient services at Nepean Hospital; out-patient services at the Penrith Community Dialysis Centre and the Katoomba Community Dialysis Centre in the Blue Mountains and at other public specialist Renal Clinics that may come up within NBMLHD; and will participate in the NBMLHD Renal Medicine on-call rosters at the direction of the Department Head of Renal Medicine at Nepean Hospital. The appointee will be eligible for credentialing and privileging across other facilities within NBMLHD as the primary responsibility for the position is to provide a comprehensive in-patient and out-patient specialist renal service to the community with in the NBMLHD. In addition, the appointee may also be required to participate in NBMLHD Renal Supportive Care on-call rosters at the direction of the Department Head of Renal Medicine at Nepean Hospital that requires separate credentialling in Palliative Medicine.

Since transplantation and dialysis services are integrated with WSLHD, the appointee may require access to the renal facilities in WSLHD, depending upon patient needs. The position may therefore include honorary appointment at WSLHD to permit access to above services including those at Blacktown Hospital’s Regional Dialysis Centre (for Satellite and Home Hemodialysis and Peritoneal Dialysis) and Westmead Hospital’s Kidney Transplantation service, renal pathology, renal teaching, and research. Honorary appointment at WSLHD will be at the discretion of WSLHD and will require separate application.

Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) and training in Supportive and Palliative Care leading to a Diploma in Palliative Care or Fellowship of the Australasian Chapter of Palliative Medicine (FAChPM) are essential. It is expected that applicants will have considerable experience and expertise by having completed training requirements for a consultant in Renal Medicine and Renal Supportive care. In addition, the applicant should possess procedural skills in ultrasound guided kidney biopsies to participate in training and accreditation in this procedural skill of the Nephrology Advance trainees within the Department.

Selection Criteria

 

  1. Possess or be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  2. Possess Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) or equivalent as provided for in the Health Insurance Act 1997 and the Staff Specialists (NSW) Award with demonstrated specialist training, experience, and clinical skills in Nephrology.
  3. Training in Supportive and Palliative Care leading to a Diploma in Palliative Care or Fellowship of the Australasian Chapter of Palliative Medicine (FAChPM)
  1. Evidence of Continuing Medical Education and Professional Development through the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.
  1. Possess procedural skills in ultrasound guided kidney biopsies.
  1. High level interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated commitment to teaching and supervision of junior medical staff and working within a multidisciplinary environment.
  2. Evidence of involvement and participation in quality assurance activities.

 

 

 

Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Health Services Act 1997, and Staff Specialists (State) Award

 

Employees and Contractors must abide by the NSW Health Code of Conduct.
