What you'll be doing
This includes providing specialised clinical support to assist in the prevention and response to violence, abuse and neglect, as well as participating in teaching, research, quality improvement and administrative activities within the Violence, Abuse and Neglect (VAN) Service and other district health services (e.g. Emergency Department) as required.
It also includes maintaining and extending the district’s provision of high-quality medical and forensic care to victims of sexual violence and fulfilling the roles and responsibilities of the Medical Lead outlined in NSW Health’s Responding to Sexual Assault (adult and child) Policy and Procedures.
This is a Category A position. Recommended applicants will be reviewed for compliance with NSW Health policy directive for Category A positions prior to offer.

Selection Criteria
- Current medical practitioner, registered, or eligible for registration, with: Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), Fellowship of the Faculty of Clinical Forensic Medicine of the RCPA, the Australasian Chapter of Sexual Health Medicine of the RACP, the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (RANZCOG), the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) and/or other equivalent specialist recognition as provided for in the NSW Staff Specialists (State) Award with relevant experience and recognised qualifications in clinical forensic medicine.
- Demonstrated knowledge of integrated domestic and family violence and sexual assault service delivery, including responses to crisis presentations, medical follow-up and wellbeing consultations.
- Demonstrated understanding of and ability to respond appropriately to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients and patients from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
- Proven ability to provide leadership, advanced negotiation skills and the ability to develop and maintain a cohesive patient centred service, including experience in working collaboratively with existing medical, forensic and other providers to achieve desired outcomes.
- Willingness to participate in a 24/7 on-call service which responds to interagency partners (NSW Police), including on-call rosters already existing or established, if requested and credentialed, and provision of ongoing training and support to examiners.
- Demonstrated expertise in managing and supervising medico-legal work, including review of Expert Witness Certificates, providing expert witness evidence and testimony in court, preparing examiners to provide evidence and testimony and debriefing examiners.
- Demonstrated knowledge of quality improvement methodologies and experience in initiating and implementing changes to improve clinical service delivery and outcomes, models of care, evidence based practice and practice development.
- Current unrestricted drivers’ licence and willingness to travel as the role requires.
