We are seeking an experienced Manager Employee/Industrial Relations to join our People Culture Executive team to deliver people centric employee relations initiatives. This is an exciting and challenging role where no two days are the same. With more than 7,000 employees across a range of professional disciplines, the role will provide professional industrial relations advice and services across a diverse local health district. You will be working with a wide range of stakeholders within the business, to support effective employee relations practices and ultimately contribute to enhanced cultural development whilst supporting clinical and non-clinical professionals who deliver quality care and support across our local community in both acute and non-acute settings.

This role supports the employee experience of our workforce and the broader development and contribution towards the public health sector. What you will bring to the role:

  1. Relevant tertiary qualifications in Employment Law, Industrial Relations Human Resources Management or other relevant business degree and/or demonstrated extensive experience in managing employee/industrial relations in a complex and diverse organisation.
  2. Extensive experience in managing an employee/industrial relations portfolio. This would include: negotiating with unions, undertaking advocacy in various jurisdictions, preparing employer submissions, witness statements, filing of applications and employer responses and appearances at conciliation and arbitration proceedings.
  3. Proven ability to apply knowledge of employment legislation, awards, agreements, policies and best practice to identify and resolve complex workforce issues, with extensive experience in negotiation and resolution in managing industrial disputes, grievances and conducting investigations.
  4. Computer literacy, including, word processing for the formulation of briefs, ministerials, reports, letters and general communication. Utilisation of databases, spreadsheets and other applications used in the Windows environment for analysis of workforce data as required.
  5. Demonstrated high level written, oral communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to provide authoritative advice and maintain appropriate and credible relationships.
  6. Ability to work independently with limited direction as to work priorities, with demonstrated experience managing and meeting predetermined targets and deadlines. Meticulous attention to detail and flexibility to adapt work practices to meet changing needs.
  7. Willingness to travel to all NBMLHD facilities and the Ministry of Health, including travel to appear before the Industrial Relations Commission and other tribunals on behalf of NBMLHD.
