The Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District Drug and Alcohol Service offers free, non-judgemental services and treatments for drug and/or alcohol use, including information and support for families. Our service offers specialist drug and alcohol doctors, nurses and allied health staff who respect the client's right to choose from a range of treatments offered with our services underpinned by a philosophy of harm reduction. 


A Permanent Full time opportunity is now available for a Health and Security Assistant to join the Drug & Alcohol Services team, located at Nepean Hospital.
 

The Health and Security Assistant is an important member of the multi-disciplinary team who will provide a local response to incidents, maintain general safety of the unit and engagement with patients in a wide variety of situations and contexts. These include but limited too Immediate response to critical incidents, escorting patients to other departments/appointments, assisting with the cleanliness of the unit, ensure that daily environmental searches of the unit are being carried out.

Your role will provide patient-focused care, including assisting with patient personal hygiene, mobility and report any observations or concerns about the patient to ensure the provision of care and undertake security duties as directed including both preventative and responsive security actions aimed at ensuring a secure and safe environment for staff, patients and visitors.

What you will bring to the role 

  1. Current NSW Security Industries License 1A, in accordance with the Security Industry Act, 1997; nationally recognised current First Aid Certificate or Statement of Attainment from a Registered Training Organisation.
  2. Recent experience working in a Hospital Security Officer or Health and Security Assistant role. Demonstrated skills to manage aggressive incidents and / or challenging behaviours and respond to duress situations.
  3. Ability and willingness to work shift work, including Public Holidays.
  4. Demonstrated ability to perform duties and tasks with minimal supervision.
  5. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as a team member. Ability to communicate effectively, respectful approach to people from all backgrounds with all levels of staff, as well as patients/clients and members of the public.
  6. Sound knowledge of WH&S and understanding of the requirement for confidentiality in a health care setting.
  7. Current Driver’s Licence and willingness for work purposes.
