Deputy Medical Director

An exciting opportunity exists to join the Health Education and Training Institute (HETI) as the Deputy Medical Director in the Medical (MED) Portfolio.

The role of the Deputy Medical Director is to equip NSW trainee doctors for patient centered care by:

  • Assisting the Medical Director in leading the Medical Portfolio in contributing to the development and achievement of HETI 's strategic priorities.
  • Assisting the Medical Director to act as the HETI-wide expert for medical education and training (excluding Mental Health).
  • Assisting the Medical Director on the development, implementation and achievement of the portfolio strategic plan, including the implementation and tracking of the agreed responses to key reviews.

    The role is based in Sydney at 1 Reserve Road, St Leonards in a modern, purpose-built 5 star rated green campus that is well serviced by public transport and access to public parking. Additionally, you must also address the Selection Criteria in your application, as outlined below:

  1. Relevant educational tertiary qualifications, medical registration and specialist qualifications.
  2. Significant experience and demonstrated ability to positively and proactively work across a range of professions at a senior management level, broad knowledge of the current health system at State and National level and related issues with particular reference to medical professions, the challenges of developing a future rural medical workforce and significant changes to the delivery of medical education and training in the foreseeable future.
  3. Demonstrated understanding of medical training in NSW and nationally, including pre-vocational standards and accreditation principles, post graduate year 1 & 2 allocation, hospital non-specialist workforce and vocational training.
  4. Understanding of the continuum of medical education and training as well as medical workforce principles and issues, sound understanding of adult learning principles, contemporary clinical education and training concepts and their application in the NSW health system.
  5. Proven capacity to work in a collaborative way across the broad range of stakeholders including education providers, LHDs, Colleges, Medical Schools, Australian Medical Council (AMC) Medical Board of Australia (MBA)/APHRA with demonstrated competence in using contemporary approaches to communicate, educate and engage with stakeholders through technology. Highly effective leadership and partnering capabilities.
  6. Prepare scope and business cases for more ambiguous or complex projects including cost and resource impacts. Proactive in leading and monitoring the progress; completion of projects and implement effective and rigorous project evaluation methodologies to inform future planning.
  7. Implement effective stakeholder engagement and communications strategy for all programs of work.
  8. Demonstrated experience to scope, plan and report on financial management (i.e. budgeting, management reporting and forecasting) coupled with strong strategic, planning, project management and organisational skills.
