Clinical Nurse Consultant Voluntary Assisted Dying Local Support Team
The NSW Voluntary Assisted Dying Support Services (NVSS) is a unique opportunity to make a difference in the lives of patients and families. As a Clinical Nurse Consultant for the VAD LST, you will play a critical role in delivering expert care coordination, clinical expertise, education and guidance in relation to the VAD process.

Remuneration: $2,428.60 - $2,478.30 per week

NSLHD is responsible for hosting the NSW Voluntary Assisted Dying Support Service (NVSS), comprising four operational arms which provide high quality Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD) services to eligible patients across NSW. This includes the NSLHD Local Support Team (VAD-LST). The VAD-LST provides person-centred, high-quality care for patients who wish to access VAD in NSLHD. This includes holistic care and support to people and their families, comprising a range of individualised services including coordination of the VAD process, supportive care and counselling and bereavement support.
What you'll be doing
- Provides an expert person-centred consultancy practice participating in direct patient care provision.
- Provides education on complex clinical issues to patients, families and health professionals.
- Identifies and adopts innovative clinical practice models.
- Participates/collaborates in the design and conduct of quality improvement initiatives.
Clinical leadership
- Acts as a role model and expert clinician in the clinical setting.
- Contributes to the development and management of clinical processes.
- Provides leadership in the ongoing review of clinical practice at facility or LHD level as required.
Clinical research
- Disseminates findings of locally based research in the VAD experience of patients/ families/ carers/ staff/ VAD practitioners.
- Participates as co-researcher in larger studies.
- Manages research projects requiring clinical contribution from others.
Education
- Participates in formal and informal education programs.
- Identifies facility-level clinical education needs.
- Collaborates with others in the development and delivery of education programs.
Clinical Services Planning and Management
- Identifies future areas for service improvement.
- Contributes to formal service and strategic planning processes within the team.
People of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background are encouraged to apply.
- Registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse and minimum five years full time equivalent post graduate experience and a post graduate qualification in a relevant field of practice or such other qualifications or experience deemed appropriate. Current NSW Driver's License and willingness to travel as required in role.
- Demonstrated experience and specialist knowledge in end-of-life care with the ability to provide a district-wide patient centred consultancy service.
- Demonstrated care coordination skills with the ability to work collaboratively and independently.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to strategic and clinical service planning.
