What you'll be doing
Garrawarra Centre is a NSW Health Residential Aged Care Facility that specialises in providing person centred care to residents with Advanced Dementia displaying Behavioural and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia (BPSD).
Garrawarra Centre is located just south of Waterfall on the outskirts of the Royal National Park, and due to the location, the facility is not accessible by public transport.

The Clinical Nurse Consultant (Infection Prevention, Wound & Continence Advisor) is a Registered Nurse who has responsibility for:-
Provide expert nursing advice to Health Care Workers, Residents and Carers within the Centre. Develop specialised information and education resources for Residents, Carers and Other Health Care Professionals. Participate in research projects incorporating Best Practice principles into clinical practice. Identify and adopt appropriate clinical practice models.
Manage the surveillance and control of Infections within the Centre. Provide leadership in all aspects of Infection Prevention / Wound Management / Continence Management establishing effective communicate and interaction with Medical, Allied Health Staff and Support Staff.
The Clinical Nurse Consultant provides expert clinical advice to Residents, Carers and Other Health Care Professionals within a defined speciality. The Clinical Nurse Consultant develops, facilitates implementation and evaluates care management plans for residents with complex health needs. Provides an expert Resident-Centred Consultancy practice participating in direct patient care provision. Provides education on complex clinical issues to Residents and Carers. Responsible for staff exposure prevention, review of all incidents that occur and reporting as required.
Identifies and adopts innovative clinical practice models eg implementation and evaluation of new treatments, technologies, and therapeutic techniques relating to infection prevention, wound and continence management.
Provides a complex person-centred consultancy practice within a mixed clinical environment.
Participates / collaborates in the design and conduct of quality improvement initiatives
Selection Criteria
- Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse/Midwife, Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia. Minimum five years full time equivalent post qualification experience, with at least three years full time equivalent experience in the specialty field of Aged Care and post graduate qualifications relevant to the field of practice.
- Proven clinical leadership skills and an ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary framework
- An understanding of the practice development framework with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in nursing practice
- Demonstrated effective communication and inter-personal skills across a variety of mediums.
- Proven ability to implement changes and develop direction in clinical practice by the utilisation of evidence based research.
- Understanding of Residential Aged Care Facility requirements.
- Demonstrated participation in the Quality Improvement process.
- Current NSW Driver's License (or a willingness to travel in accordance with the demands of the position).
