What you'll be doing
The incumbent will oversee the process of clinical coding queries initiated by Clinical Documentation Improvement Analysts (CDIAs).
The incumbent will assist the coding management team with the introduction of new clinical coding technology and updated classifications.
The incumbent will carry out accurate and timely coding of highly complex inpatient separations from any or all of the hospitals of the Illawarra Shoalhaven LHD using the current edition of ICD-10-AM, ACHI and the Australian Coding Standards in order to provide data for research, planning and financial management.

Following interview, applicants will be required to code a sample of patient admissions.
Selection Criteria
- Successful completion of a recognised clinical coding course with advanced skills, knowledge and experience in the current edition of ICD-10-AM, ACHI and ACS using 3M Codefinder software.
- Extensive clinical coding experience in an Australian inpatient tertiary facility.
- Demonstrated experience in leading/supervising, mentoring and developing trainee clinical coders.
- Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently both written and verbally, with staff, clinicians and managers
- Demonstrated thorough understanding of the DRG assignment process and the relationship between clinical coding and activity-based funding.
- Demonstrated strong analytical skills.
- Demonstrated ability to organise and prioritise workload, including ability to meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated computer literacy particularly in the use of Patient Administration Systems and electronic medical record systems.
