About the role:


The Cardiac Nurse Practitioner (NP/TNP) provides virtual support to 29 rural emergency departments across the Hunter New England Local Health District. The service currently operates 7 days per week on a rotating roster with one nurse practitioner rostered each day.


The successful candidate will be an integral part of multidisciplinary teams, working both autonomously and collaboratively to assess, manage, and deliver care to patients. You will apply expert nursing knowledge and advanced skills, aligned with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) Registered Nurse Standards of Practice, to ensure high-quality, evidence-based care. This role requires critical thinking, sound clinical judgement, and the ability to provide comprehensive care in a complex healthcare environment via virtual care.

As a Nurse Practitioner or Transitional Nurse Practitioner you will receive dedicated clinical supervision & support in your professional development specific to this role. Additionally, you will be connected to the Hunter New England Health Nurse Practitioner professional development peer group, fostering collaboration, professional networking, and exposure to shared experiences and best practices.

Where you’ll be working:

Hunter New England Local Health District (HNELHD) serves a vast and diverse region, providing networked cardiology services to a large population across 131,785 square kilometres. We are currently seeking dynamic and passionate Nurse Practitioners (NPs) or Transitional Nurse Practitioners (TNPs) to join our developing service committed to improving access to essential cardiology services for patients in rural and remote areas.

Requirements:
 

Our successful candidate will possess the following:

  • Registered Nurse with current Authority to Practice with AHPRA and current endorsement as a Nurse Practitioner or, if transitional, evidence of substantial progress towards endorsement. If not endorsed, the Transitional Nurse Practitioner will be appointed temporarily (up to 3 years) to work towards endorsement as a Nurse Practitioner.
  • Post graduate qualification related to the specified area of specialty and at least five years post graduate nursing experience with 3 years full time in acute Cardiology.
