Royal North Shore Hospital (RNSH) is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to provide after hours support for newly graduated Registered Nurses (RN) in the role of After Hours Clinical Nurse Educator. The position is temporary until May 2026, and will cover evening shifts Monday through Sunday, as well as morning shifts on the weekends.

Where you'll be working

The role will provide educational support after hours for the Royal North Shore Hospital GradStart Registered Nurses. The CNE will be responsible for liaising with ward NUMs, CNEs, Team Leaders and GradStart RNs to assist with the transition of the nurses into practise. The CNE has a role in the provision and facilitation of education and support for the GradStart Registered Nurses. The CNE will be responsible for clinical teaching, and assessing staff in accordance with RNSH based competencies or other competencies. The CNE is committed to high standards of care, should be a good communicator, easily approachable, flexible and promote adherence to policies, procedures and guidelines.

What you'll be doing

The Clinical Nurse Educator will be guided by the Nurse Unit Manager and Clinical Nurse Consultant in leading, developing, co-ordinated and implementing all structured learning for nurses within NSLHD. 

The Clinical Nurse Educator will provide clinical teaching, orientation, skill accreditation and professional development support for all nursing staff and students.   

The Clinical Nurse Educator will have a role in the provision of hospital orientation and mandatory training. They will also be expected to teach in courses appropriate to nursing within and at facilities external to NSLHD.  

The Clinical Nurse Educator will participate in the development and teaching of the NSLHD Nursing Professional Development Program (this includes travelling to other sites within the LHD for lecturing and facilitation of workshops).

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

  1. Holds AHPRA Registration as a Registered Nurse AND holds relevant clinical or education post registration qualifications or such education and clinical experience deemed appropriate by the employer.
  2. Demonstrated advanced written, verbal and interpersonal skills. 
  3. Knowledge of Adult learning principles. 
  4. Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  5. Competent in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook email, Internet and relevant clinical applications
  6. Demonstrated ability to practice safe nursing care and knowledge of policies and clinical practice guidelines.
  7. Demonstrated commitment to evidence based practice, continuous quality improvement and risk management.
