The Illawarra Brain Injury Service (IBIS) is seeking an experienced and motivated social worker to join the team.
IBIS is a part of the state-wide Brain Injury Rehabilitation Program (BIRP) providing specialised brain injury rehabilitation within the community or on an outpatient basis.
The successful applicant will join a dynamic, collaborative and supportive team based at Port Kembla Hospital. The social work role will support eligible clients and families to optimise functioning and adjustment following a brain injury. This position will provide case management for a designated caseload to coordinate services to support the client work towards attaining their rehabilitation goals.

What you'll be doing

Provide senior social work clinical leadership within the Illawarra Brain Injury service (IBIS) including optimisation of client care delivery, as well as supporting the mentoring and development of staff.
Facilitate interventions to develop a client's independent living skills to optimum functioning. This will be based on client goals and in collaboration with the IBIS team and any relevant third parties. Intervention will be provided within setting deemed most appropriate i.e. outpatient or community based.
The position will be required to case manage a number of IBIS clients through their rehabilitation program. The position is required to provide timely reports that meet industry standard for clients that have compensation.

All NSW Health workers are required to have completed an up-to-date course of a COVID-19 vaccine (2 doses) which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA). New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an approved medical contraindication certificate certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW.

 

Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Please provide proof of vaccination if available.

Selection Criteria 

  1. Social Work degree and eligibility for the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW), including the ability to demonstrate a practical application of the AASW Code of Ethics.
  2. Extensive post graduate experience in providing rehabilitation services to people with a traumatic brain injury.
  3. Extensive experience in the provision of education and counselling to carers and families.
  4. Demonstrated high level organisational and time management skills in an environment of competing clinical/administrative demands.
  5. Demonstrated high level ability to communicate clearly and succinctly both verbally and in writing, and demonstrated competence in the use of electronic information systems.
  6. Proven ability to work effectively and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team and demonstrated capacity to provide clinical supervision.
  7. Demonstrated ability to work unsupervised and apply advanced reasoning skills and independent professional judgement when dealing with situations of a novel or critical nature.
  8. Current NSW Drivers Licence, with the ability to travel in accordance with position responsibilities.
