Where you'll be working
The Hand Therapy Unit works as part of the Hand Unit at Sydney Hospital. The Hand Therapy Unit is staffed by Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists. There are 8.5 full-time equivalent therapists spread across both disciplines. The Hand Therapists provide specialised Hand Therapy assessment and treatment to inpatients at Sydney Hospital, the outpatient Hand Clinics at Sydney Hospital and Hand Therapy outpatient appointments. 

Hand Therapists in the Hand Unit at Sydney Hospital work as designated Hand Therapists, using a case management model of practice. That is during a patients journey in the service they will ideally have one Hand Therapist to provide and coordinate their rehabilitation. The Hand Therapists working in Hand Therapy at Sydney Hospital have a caseload that is comprised of approximately 90% traumatic hand injuries.

Both formal and informal clinical supervision is provided by the senior Hand Therapy team. The Hand therapy unit had a coordinated continuing education program that all staff participate in.


What you'll be doing

To provide a high level of Hand Therapy services within the role and function of Sydney and Sydney Eye Hospital.

Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified for this position following suitable labour market testing.

All Category A workers and new recruits are required to receive one dose of the seasonal influenza vaccine annually to be considered compliant.

Category A workers and new recruits who are non-compliant with seasonal influenza vaccination or have a medical contraindication to influenza vaccinations must comply with all other infection control risk reduction strategies as directed while working in a Category A position.

  1. Meets relevant tertiary qualifications standard as outlined below For Physiotherapists: Current registration with the Australian Physiotherapy Board within the AHPRA For Occupational Therapists: Current registration with Occupational Therapy Board of Australia within AHPRA.
  2. Post-graduate hand therapy experience
  3. Post-graduate experience in casting and orthosis fabrication
  4. Demonstrated ability to effectively utilize a range of written and verbal communication skills
  5. Demonstrated commitment to continuing education
  6. Demonstrated commitment to clinical improvement activities
  7. Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
