Now is an exciting time to join The Sutherland Hospital, with our $81.5 million expansion nearing completion. The Sutherland Hospital is a 375-bed, major metropolitan hospital and an associated teaching hospital of the University of NSW.

Where you'll be working:

The Sutherland Hospital Wiyanga and Birthing Unit strives to provide safe and effective, woman centred care by working collaboratively with women and their families during their labour, birth and during the postnatal period. This service encompasses the Delivery suite and Postnatal ward of The Sutherland Hospital. Midwives within Wiyanga work with women to support, educate and empower them through their journey into parenthood

Your new role:

  • Provision of support to the midwifery team in the delivery of midwifery care in an acute care environment as directed by the Registered Midwife
  • Provide direct care activities to women and families in accordance with the midwifery care plan and under the supervision of a Registered Midwife
  • Assist Registered Midwives with patient care interventions as directed
  • Contribute to collecting accurate health care information and maintaining accurate health care documentation as required
  • Communicate effectively with women, families and other health care team members in accordance with appropriate protocol

Established in 1958, The Sutherland Hospital campus offers a comprehensive range of inpatient and community services to around 226,000 residents of the Sutherland Shire, colloquially known as ‘The Shire’. Part of the  South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) and located in Caringbah, the hospital campus is close to some of Sydney’s great beaches, restaurants, bars and cafes at Cronulla and is close to the beautiful Royal National Park. At Miranda, just a short walk away from the hospital, there is a Westfield Shopping Centre and cinema complex.

The ideal candidate will have:

  1. Certificate III (or higher) in Health Services Assistance
  2. Ability to work within the scope of practice of an Assistant in Nursing (Hospital Maternity Services)
  3. Highly developed verbal and written communication skills with problem solving capabilities
  4. Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  5. Ability to perform a variety of tasks involving direct and non-direct women-centred care at the request and delegation of the Registered Midwife
  6. Understanding of Women-Centred Care and Family-Centred Care
