Build your pathway to Orthopaedic SET with Hunter New England LHD
Maitland Hospital is seeking motivated and career-focused unaccredited trainees to join our Orthopaedic Surgery team.
This role is ideal for doctors intending to pursue Orthopaedic SET training, offering the clinical exposure, mentorship and portfolio development needed to progress to the next stage of your surgical career.
What you’ll be doing
- Deliver high-quality, patient-centred care within a multidisciplinary orthopaedic team
- Actively participate in operating theatre, fracture clinic, and acute orthopaedic care
- Develop core orthopaedic knowledge and early procedural capability
- Contribute to audit, teaching, and quality improvement activities
- Work under close supervision with regular feedback from consultants and senior trainees
SET-focused opportunities
- Meaningful theatre exposure with opportunities to assist and build technical confidence
- Access to engaged consultants who support trainees progressing to SET
- Opportunities to secure strong clinical referees
- Participation in audit and quality improvement projects aligned with RACS CV domains
- Involvement in teaching and departmental education sessions

- Experience and qualifications commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgement and expertise.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team with demonstrated skills in time management, prioritisation and problem solving.
- High level communication skills, both written and verbal with a demonstrated ability to convey information to both a clinical and non clinical audience.
- Commitment to own continuing professional development and self-education with evidence of motivation to further career in orthopaedics.
- Demonstrated evidence of a commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management
