Join a well-supported Critical Care Senior Resident Medical Officer (SRMO) program within Hunter New England Health and gain hands-on experience managing critically ill and injured patients across tertiary and regional centres.

This role is ideal for junior doctors considering a future in Anaesthesia, Intensive Care or Emergency Medicine, with guaranteed rotations in Anaesthesia and the John Hunter Hospital Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The year provides many transferable skills that would also be useful in other training programs such as Medicine, Paediatrics and General Practice.

What you’ll be doing

You will provide supervised medical care to critically ill and injured patients while developing core skills in Anaesthesia, Intensive Care and acute resuscitation across a range of urban and regional settings.

Qualifications

  1. MBBS or equivalent, current general registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
  2. Two years experience demonstrating knowledge, skills, problem solving and attention to detail to the care of complex patients. Completion of, or commitment to completing, the ICU BASIC Course, and ALS-2 or equivalent
  3. A professional attitude and flexibility in their work role with a preparedness and ability to participate in after-hours rosters to deliver patient care.
  4. Demonstrated motivation to take on, and complete new challenges, which add value to the department, team or workplace, beyond just their clinical role.
  5. A proven record of effective communication, high levels of professionalism, and collaborative work within a multidisciplinary team to care for patients and their families.
  6. Demonstrated understanding of the health needs and challenges within the Hunter New England region, including the importance of providing culturally safe care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, and a genuine interest in contributing to the long-term healthcare workforce in Newcastle and the wider region.
