About the role:
As our new Registered Midwife at Scott Memorial Hospital, you will use your experience to work as the sole midwife on shift to provide a high level of patient-centred care to women and their babies. No two days are the same in Maternity Services – you could either be swept off your feet managing the maternity unit, be pulled to other wards to assist them if they’re short staffed, or you could spend a quiet shift completing administrative-based tasks and recordkeeping. If you’re up for the challenge that a fluctuating workload presents, then we want to hear from you!

Whilst not essential, this position would be very well suited to a dual registered Nurse and Midwife. The Registered Midwives are regularly pulled onto the Emergency Department floor to assist during lulls in Maternity, and night staff can always help in the general ward if quiet. This level of variation in duties is hard to find in more highly populated areas, so if you’re looking for professional development in both Nursing and Midwifery, then Scott Memorial Hospital is the place for you.

You won’t be working alone. You will be supported by the small, close-knit midwifery team including the GP Obstetrician, Midwifery Unit Manager (MUM), and Clinical Nurse Educators (CNE) are available full time. The Clinical Midwife Educator (CME) is easily contactable if needed. The culture is stable and incredible supportive, including the team from ED as a result of working together so closely. If you’re looking for a relaxed unit that works well together and within the wider service, then look no further than Scott Memorial!

About You:

  • Recent, broad clinical experience in midwifery, including provision of antenatal and postnatal care and a demonstrated understanding of the principles of primary health care.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision, prioritise own workload, and accept accountability / responsibility for your own actions within the midwifery profession.
  • A demonstrated high level of oral, written and interpersonal communication skills along with the ability to use and keep up to date client files in eMaternity; iPM, and Midwifery files (kept in Maternity).

Where you’ll be working:
Scott Memorial Hospital is in Scone, a town in the Upper Hunter region of NSW otherwise called the Horse Capital of Australia. Known for its rural charm, Scone is a vibrant community surrounded by scenic landscapes and offers a peaceful atmosphere while providing access to essential healthcare and other services.
