About the role:

The Director of Nursing and Midwifery (DONM) is responsible for leading nursing and midwifery services across acute, subacute, and specialist clinical areas. On any given day, you will be responsible the strategic planning of nursing and midwifery services; completing hospital rounds and conducting rapid bed meetings; managing escalations; providing support to the Deputy Director of Nursing and Midwifery (DDONM) and the Nurse Unit Managers (NUM’s); and acting as the professional lead for nursing and midwifery services within the hospital. You won’t be working alone. You will be supported by the Director of Medical Services, General Manager, and other members of the executive team. Where you’ll be working:

Tamworth Hospital is the principal referral hospital for the northern sector of Hunter New England Local Health District (HNELHD), servicing a population of over 180,000 people. As a major rural referral facility, Tamworth Hospital provides a wide range of specialist services, including emergency, medical, surgical, maternity, critical care, mental health, rehabilitation, and outpatient services.

Located in the vibrant regional centre of Tamworth, the hospital is a teaching facility affiliated with the University of Newcastle, and offers opportunities to work alongside clinicians involved in research, education, and innovation. Tamworth combines the advantages of rural living with access to quality schools, cultural events, sporting facilities, and transport connections.

As our next DONM, you will have:
- Proven executive leadership in nursing or midwifery within a complex healthcare setting. 
- Strong commitment to clinical excellence, innovation, and service improvement.
- Advanced interpersonal and negotiation skills to influence, lead change and build partnerships
- Understanding of the challenges and opportunities of regional/rural healthcare.
- Capacity to develop and lead high-performing teams.

- Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA
