Join a passionate and high-performing team of Clinical Coders at John Hunter Hospital, the largest hospital in the Hunter New England Local Health District. You’ll play a vital role in supporting excellence in patient care through accurate, high-quality clinical coding across a diverse and complex casemix.
About the Role
As a valued member of the Health Information Acute Services team, you will:
Classify diseases and procedures using 3M Code Finder, ICD-10-AM coding books, and other recognised coding resources.
Ensure accurate DRG assignment and maintain NSW Cancer Registrations.
Review and correct coding errors, queries, and quality indicators (PICQ).
Report on coding throughput rates and maintain confidentiality under the Health Records Information Privacy Act.
Liaise with clinicians to clarify diagnoses and procedures.
Mentor and audit coders, providing guidance and coding support.
Uphold HNELHD’s Values Charter, Code of Conduct, and commitment to Closing the Gap through culturally respectful care.
You will code episodes for John Hunter, Belmont, and Tomaree Hospitals, encompassing a varied and complex casemix – including trauma, all surgical specialities, and paediatrics.
About You
You are an experienced Clinical Coder looking to join a cohesive and dynamic team.
You’re dedicated, hardworking, and detail-oriented, with a commitment to accuracy and data integrity.
You understand and apply the principles of confidentiality, privacy, and security in the medical environment.
You have demonstrated experience and competence in clinical classification using ICD-10-AM & ACHI and a strong understanding of the Australian Coding Standards.
You possess competent keyboard skills and experience using Microsoft Windows programs.
