Seeking a Career Medical Officer in Emergency Medicine to join the ED Team at Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital.
Tamworth ED department is led by a group of dynamic FACEMS who promote an active, stimulating and supportive work environment. The new $260 million acute services redevelopment opened in July 2015, is equipped with 348 treatment spaces, and is the major Rural Referral Hospital for the northwest of NSW. Tamworth is home to a locally based helicopter retrieval service and is the only major trauma centre north of Newcastle. Tamworth Hospital has a busy ED with approximately 45,000 presentations p.a., 25% admission rate and 30% paediatric case load. The ED has dedicated areas for resuscitation, acute presentations, ambulant and fast track presentations, paediatrics and short stay observation.
Tamworth ED is accredited with ACEM for 18 months of compulsory ED time and also has accredited terms in anaesthetics, ICU and medical retrieval. The focus of the unit is on providing excellence in patient care, training and education and a cohesive team culture. You will find the workload busy enough to gain exposure to a large variety of cases including majors and trauma but quiet enough to be encouraged to practice evidence-based medicine. You will be well supported by a team with a good mix of experience and enthusiasm providing mentoring and support. Tamworth is an inviting and progressive city offering excellent lifestyle, education and employment opportunities. It has outstanding outdoor recreational options and a great wining and dining café and live music culture. Tamworth is ideally located about half way between Sydney and Brisbane, with excellent flight connections. Tamworth’s population is 60,000 and growing at about 5% per year.
