About the Role
We’re looking for an Administration Officer to join our Switch / Reception Team at The Maitland Hospital. Though small in number, our team plays a pivotal role in ensuring patient access, care and support across the hospital.
In this dynamic role, you’ll be the first point of contact for patients and visitors, provide efficient telephony and administrative support, and deliver after-hours assistance across the Lower Hunter Sector. From secretarial support to live data management, every day will bring new challenges and opportunities to make a difference.
You’ll also be working in one of NSW’s most vibrant regional centres. Maitland offers the best of both worlds - historic charm and a thriving modern lifestyle. Within 30 minutes you can reach vineyards, beaches, an airport and Lake Macquarie, while locally you’ll find great cafes, culture and a welcoming community to be part of.
In this role, you’ll:
- Provide courteous, efficient telephony and front-of-house services.
- Deliver outstanding customer service to patients, visitors and staff.
- Assist with live data after hours, ensuring patients are in the right place at the right time.
- Provide administrative support to the Emergency Department and overnight support for Maitland, Kurri Kurri, Cessnock and Dungog facilities.
About You
You’re a motivated professional who thrives in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment. You can stay calm under pressure, make sound decisions during peak periods and enjoy working both independently and as part of a supportive team.
You must have:
- A passion for customer service and patient care.
- The ability to remain composed under high-pressure conditions.
- Strong teamwork skills, balanced with confidence working autonomously.
- Flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including nights, across a 7-day roster.
Why Join Maitland?
At The Maitland Hospital, we’re committed to supporting you from day one. Here’s what you can expect:
- A comprehensive orientation program (both face-to-face and online).
- Ongoing training via My Health Learning.
- Support from your Administration Manager and an experienced team.
- Access to professional development opportunities across the wider administrative network.
- This is more than just an admin role - it’s your chance to be a vital part of patient care in a supportive, community-focused hospital.
