Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of children and families? This is your chance to join a dedicated multi-disciplinary team delivering the Sustaining NSW Families Plus Pilot, an exciting program that provides early intervention, trauma-informed support, and specialist care for vulnerable families across Greater Newcastle.
Where you’ll be working
Based at Wallsend, with outreach across the Greater Newcastle area, you’ll work alongside Child and Family Health Nurses, allied health clinicians, and administrative support. This close-knit and enthusiastic team is united by a shared commitment to improving outcomes for families through collaboration, compassion, and evidence-based practice.
What you’ll be doing
As a Social Worker, you’ll play a key role in the care and management of every family in the program. Your work will involve:
- Delivering advanced psychosocial and parenting support to families, with a strong focus on trauma-informed and attachment-based care.
- Providing specialist consultation to Child and Family Health Nurses and contributing expert input during weekly multi-disciplinary case conferences.
- Conducting complex psychosocial assessments and developing therapeutic, family-centred care plans.
- Advocating for families and supporting them to navigate health and social care systems.
- Supervising and mentoring students or less experienced staff to support professional growth and development.
This role offers the opportunity to work autonomously while being supported by a collaborative and experienced team.
What you’ll need to succeed
We’re looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic professional with:
- A bachelor’s degree in Social Work (eligible for AASW membership, or equivalent qualification).
- Significant demonstrated clinical experience working with children and families, particularly in areas such as perinatal mental health, trauma, domestic violence, child protection, and substance misuse.
- Advanced therapeutic and counselling skills, with the ability to undertake complex assessments and respond effectively to family needs, including CALD communities.
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to adapt your style to engage confidently with families, colleagues, and multidisciplinary teams.
- A passion and enthusiasm for working with children and families to enable them to work autonomously, utilise independent clinical reasoning, attend psychosocial assessments and advocate on behalf of the families
The ability to work independently, use clinical reasoning, and contribute to planning and evaluating team activities.
Requirements:
- Holds as a minimum a bachelor’s degree in social work which provides eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers, or other qualification deemed equivalent by the employer.
- Eligibility to drive in NSW and willingness to travel as required
