About the Role – Registered Nurse, Emergency Short Stay Unit (ESSU)

Step into a dynamic and rewarding position as a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Short Stay Unit (ESSU) at John Hunter Hospital, where your clinical expertise will support patients requiring short-term observation, treatment, and stabilisation prior to discharge or transfer. This is a fast-paced, high-acuity environment that caters to a diverse patient population, offering continuous variety and professional challenge with every shift.

At the heart of our ESSU is an outstanding team culture - one that prioritises collaboration, support, and shared clinical excellence. You will be welcomed into a multidisciplinary unit where you will work alongside and be guided by an experienced Clinical Nurse Unit Manager, Clinical Nurse Educators, Clinical Nurse Specialists, and Nurse Practitioners. The unit also integrates the expertise of allied health professionals, pharmacists, social workers, administration staff, and ancillary support, ensuring a truly holistic, patient-centred model of care.

Leadership and support are key pillars of the ESSU. Oversight is provided by a dedicated Nurse Unit Manager, in partnership with Medical Co-Directors and the Operational Nurse Manager for Critical Care, ensuring you’re supported by strong clinical governance and expert guidance as you grow within this exceptional team.
