Where You Will Be Working:

The Maitland Hospital is a facility that officially opened in January 2022 and is designed to deliver modern, comfortable, and technologically advanced care to patients in the Hunter New England region. The hospital embraces innovation and provides staff with state-of-the-art resources and improved ways of working to enhance health outcomes and support career development.


About the opportunity:

This role forms part of the Nursing leadership of Maitland Hospital and is responsible for both the operational and strategic management of critical care services at Maitland Hospital. These services include a Level 4, 40-bed Emergency Department, an 8-bed Emergency Short Stay Unit, and an 8-bed Intensive Care Unit.

In this role, you will work closely with the directors of ED and ICU and lead a dedicated team of clinicians, playing a key role in shaping high-quality patient care and operational performance.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Serve as the key liaison between senior service managers and frontline staff, ensuring clear communication and alignment of priorities.
  • Managing the resources of the service/unit through effective planning and performance monitoring against service targets and KPI's.
  • Overseeing the implementation of safe staffing levels across the emergency department.
  • Provide leadership support to the Nurse Unit Managers (NUMs) of the Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit, as well as the education team.



What You will bring:

  • Post grad qualifications in management or leadership and/or leadership and management experience deemed appropriate for the role.
  • Extensive clinical experience in critical care, with a strong background in intensive care and/or emergency nursing.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage, influence, and collaborate with staff, patients, and stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to lead and inspire a positive workplace culture that promotes collaboration, respect, and high standards of patient care.
  • Extensive experience in critical care with a demonstrated understanding and operational management of Emergency department and ICU KPI's.

  • Registered Nurse with current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
