About the role:

A typical day will involve providing flexible, holistic, and culturally responsive health referral pathways and options to Aboriginal clients and the community, to achieve better health outcomes and better access to health services for Aboriginal people. This will include completing comprehensive Drug & Alcohol assessments and referrals in a range of settings. Our service operates Monday – Friday (excluding public holidays) 8am - 4.30pm.

You will be supported by the Nurse Unit Manager, the Drug & Alcohol Clinical Services (DACS) Aboriginal Manager and other multidisciplinary professionals within the Intake team and the wider DACS service. You will also be supported by your Aboriginal peers who will provide you with cultural support and networking.

Professional development and Clinical Supervision are encouraged and supported, and DACS provides education sessions regularly.

The Drug & Alcohol Clinical Services (DACS) Intake Team are a small, inclusive and dynamic team located in Newcastle. Our team has interesting, meaningful, rewarding and at times challenging roles. About you:

This role will require you to assist people who are experiencing challenges with alcohol, or other drugs engage with appropriate Drug & Alcohol Services, and/or providing information to clients or family members. We are looking for someone with demonstrated cultural and community connections who can provide a cultural perspective and lens to ensure safety and appropriate services are provided; and has a passion to provide competent and responsive care to improve positive health outcomes for Aboriginal communities.

Requirements:

  • Hold a Certificate IV in Aboriginal Primary Health Care (Practice) and a current authority to practice as an Aboriginal Health Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

  • Eligible to drive in NSW and the ability to travel as required

Additional Information:

  • To be eligible for employment in this position you must be an Australian Citizen, or permanent resident of Australia, or a New Zealand citizen with a current New Zealand Passport, or hold an appropriate visa that allows you to live and work in Australia. Employment of a temporary visa holder will only be offered in line with the conditions and expiry date of your visa. 

  • An eligibility list will be created for future temporary full or part time vacancies.  

  • This position is full time; however, job share and/or part time arrangements will be considered.
