The Cancer Institute NSW is the NSW Government’s cancer control agency, established to lessen the impact of cancer across the state.

What you’ll be doing 

 The Senior Career Medical Officer is responsible for providing technical expertise and senior medical leadership to the Chief Cancer Officer and across the cancer care continuum including cancer screening, prevention, treatment and research. The Senior Career Medical Officer will engage with a broad network of relevant stakeholders including government, academia, industry, clinicians and consumers, to influence and inform health and/or cancer policy, programs, research and investment. This role will provide high level strategic advice and guidance to the Institute's Executive Leadership Team to inform Cancer Institute NSW priorities and programs.

In addition to base salary: 

  • 11.5% superannuation 
  • 4 weeks annual leave (plus 17.5% leave loading)

Essential requirements 

  •  Registered medical practitioner with Medical Board of Australia.
  • Completion of a minimum seven (7) years postgraduate clinical experience.
  • Experience working in oncology or public health.
  • Advanced conceptual and analytical skills and ability to interpret complex information rapidly and accurately.
  • Postgraduate medical qualifications in oncology or other relevant disciplines e.g. public health.
  • Experience in policy development and review, program development, implementation and evaluation, with ability to apply valid research methods to public policy and programs.
  • Advanced oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, to interact effectively with staff, managers and external stakeholders, make effective presentations and prepare, review and edit correspondence, briefings, reports, papers and media.
  • Knowledge or experience in the development or delivery of next-generation advanced therapeutics in health settings, particularly at district or population scale and to deliver high quality products within agreed timeframes with minimal clinical supervision.

 

If successful for interview candidates must bring original copies of essential qualifications to be sighted by the panel, and one copy to provide to panel. 

 

Pre-screening questions  

  • Outline your approach to strategically lead or influence a broader group of stakeholders at a state or national level with varying viewpoints or interests.
  • Provide an example of a time that you were involved in providing strategic advice on a new innovative approach to cancer control.
