Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners eligible for registration in New South Wales for the above position within the Department of Violence Abuse and Neglect Service, Central Coast Local Health District CCLHD.  The position is temporary until 13 April 2028.

The Medical Lead - Child and Adolescent Safety Paediatrician (CASP) is to provide clinical and strategic leadership to support holistic, child protection medical and forensic responses within the district. The role is expected to provide some direct clinical care for children experiencing sexual assault, physical abuse, neglect and/or domestic violence.

Applicants should be a Fellow of the Australian/Australasian College of Physicians/General Practitioners and/or have other specialist qualifications such as Sexual Health, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Emergency Medicine, Forensic Medicine or equivalent, as provided for in the Staff Specialist (State) Award.

The position is an excellent opportunity for a Senior Medical Practitioner to join a dynamic and supportive team responsible for the provision of contemporary and comprehensive specialist services and clinical leadership to ensure optimal outcomes for individuals experiencing sexual assault.


 
This role will oversee the organisation and delivery of quality medical and forensic services, including recruitment of medical and forensic examiners and facilitation of training, supervision and professional development of the Medical Forensic team.

In undertaking a Staff Specialist role the successful applicant will also have access to clinical support time to undertake appropriate non-clinical duties and further their professional development and personal goals in this important area of work.

Central Coast is comprised of the twin areas of Gosford and Wyong, positioned between Sydney and Newcastle, which are collectively expected to grow from the current approximate 300,000 to 450,000 population before 2030. The Local Health District has strong connections with both Royal North Shore Hospital and the University of Newcastle. 

Salary and conditions are in accordance with the Staff Specialist (State) Award.

  1. Medical Practitioner with registered of able to be registered in Australia  inclusive of an unrestricted or 19AB exempted provider number, and recognised specialist qualifications, Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, Paediatrics and Child Health Division and / or other equivalent specialist.
  2. Appropriate knowledge and clinical experience to practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner in child abuse and neglect including child sexual assault.
  3. Ability to work constructively and effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment and with a wide range of stakeholders, demonstrating excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  4. Demonstrated understanding of and ability to respond and advocate for patients from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander patients.
  5. Demonstrated knowledge of quality improvement methodologies and experience in initiating and implementing changes to improve clinical service delivery and outcomes, models of care, evidence based practice and practice development.
  6. Demonstrated willingness and ability to lead and provide clinical supervision including the ability to provide education, vision and research would be viewed favourably.
  7. Demonstrated commitment to Caring for the Coast vision, goals and strategies, with demonstrated behaviours which align with the NSW Health CORE values and CCLHD Values and behaviours charter, and how it applies to the Prevention and Response to Violence Abuse and Neglect Framework (NSW Health – PARVAN Framework)
