Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners eligible for registration in New South Wales for the above position within the Department of Violence Abuse and Neglect Service, Central Coast Local Health District CCLHD.  

Applicants should be a Fellow of the Australian/Australasian College of Physicians/General Practitioners and/or have other specialist qualifications such as Sexual Health, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Emergency Medicine, Forensic Medicine or equivalent, as provided for in the Staff Specialist (State) Award.

The role is to provide high quality diagnostic and consultative specialty medical and forensic services in responding to sexual assault and domestic and family violence (DFV). This includes providing specialised clinical support to assist in the prevention and response to violence, abuse and neglect, as well as participating in teaching, research, quality improvement and administrative activities within the Violence, Abuse and Neglect (VAN) Service and other district health services (e.g. Emergency Department) as required.

It also includes maintaining and extending the district’s provision of high-quality medical and forensic care to victims of sexual violence and fulfilling the roles and responsibilities of the Medical Lead outlined in NSW Health’s Responding to Sexual Assault (adult and child) Policy and Procedures.

The position is an excellent opportunity for a Senior Medical Practitioner to join a dynamic and supportive team responsible for the provision of contemporary and comprehensive specialist services and clinical leadership to ensure optimal outcomes for individuals experiencing sexual assault.
 
This role will oversee the organisation and delivery of quality medical and forensic services, including recruitment of medical and forensic examiners and facilitation of training, supervision and professional development of the Medical Forensic team.

In undertaking a Staff Specialist role the successful applicant will also have access to clinical support time to undertake appropriate non-clinical duties and further their professional development and personal goals in this important area of work.

Central Coast is comprised of the twin areas of Gosford and Wyong, positioned between Sydney and Newcastle, which are collectively expected to grow from the current approximate 300,000 to 450,000 population before 2030. The Local Health District has strong connections with both Royal North Shore Hospital and the University of Newcastle. 

Salary and conditions are in accordance with the Staff Specialist (State) Award.

  1. Registered Medical Practitioner with recognised specialist qualifications such as Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of General Practitioners and/or other equivalent specialist recognition such as Forensic Medicine, Sexual Health, Obstetrics/Gynaecology or Women’s Health. (Applicants expecting to be awarded their fellowship within three months may be considered. If successful the applicant will not be subsequently eligible to commence their appointment until the relevant qualifications and requirements are formally completed.)
  2. Appropriate knowledge and clinical experience to practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner in child abuse and neglect, sexual assault or domestic violence.
  3. Demonstrated knowledge of quality improvement methodologies and experience in initiating and implementing changes to improve clinical service delivery and outcomes, models of care, evidence based practice and practice development.
  4. Demonstrated high level interpersonal skills, advanced communication skills and ability to work constructively and effectively in a multi-disciplinary team and with a wide range of stakeholders
  5. Demonstrated understanding of and ability to respond and advocate for patients from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders
  6. Demonstrated willingness and ability to lead and provide clinical supervision including the ability to provide education, vision and research would be viewed favourably.
  7. Demonstrated ability to negotiate and liaise with other disciplines and departments.
  8. Demonstrated commitment to Caring for the Coast vision, goals and strategies, with demonstrated behaviours which align with the NSW Health CORE values and CCLHD Values and behaviours charter, and how it applies to the Prevention and Response to Violence Abuse and Neglect Framework (NSW Health – PARVAN Framework)
