At Central Coast Local Health District, our vision is Trusted care. Better health for everyone.

This is a rare and exciting opportunity for an experienced Registered Nurse with strong clinical judgment and a passion for research to step into a research-focused Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) position that will directly influence national clinical practice and policy on catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs).

This position is part of a high-quality randomised controlled trial, funded through the prestigious NHMRC Investigator Grant, and will be based at either Gosford or Wyong Hospitals, working closely with a multidisciplinary research and clinical team.

About the Research

Despite advances in infection prevention, catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs) remain one of the most common healthcare-associated infections in Australia. This project will assess the efficacy and cost-effectiveness of chlorhexidine versus saline meatal cleaning during catheterisation building on prior research and seeking to shape future clinical guidelines.

About the Role

This isn’t a standard CNC role. You’ll be:

  • Working at the forefront of clinical research and infection prevention
  • Applying precision nursing skills, including conducting catheterisation procedures,  in a controlled research setting
  • Engaging with multidisciplinary clinical teams across the hospital to champion research recruitment and implementation
  • Supporting patient enrolment, informed consent, and catheterisation procedures
  • Delivering training and education to clinical teams on catheter protocols and trial objectives
  • Collecting, entering and analysing trial data, and contributing to published findings

You'll be a critical link between research and clinical practice, ensuring the trial is delivered in strict accordance with study protocols, ethics requirements, and operating procedures.
