About the role
The Manning Base Hospital Unaccredited Trainee programme offers those interested in a career in Critical Care Medicine the opportunity to develop knowledge, skills and gain experience within an Intensive Care Department within a rural setting. This program seeks to develop and enhance practitioners with critical care skills, towards a career in Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Intensive Care Medicine and Anaesthetics.
Upon completion of the Intensive Care programme the Unaccredited Trainee will be well prepared to apply for trainee positions or further training in Intensive Care, Emergency Medicine or Anaesthetics and will also have acquired many transferable skills that will be useful in other training programs. This role is also highly relevant to those wanting to be an acute (e.g. ACCRM RACGP-Rural, CICIM and ANZCA).
Participation in relief / nights are expected on an equitable basis.

Taree’s, town name comes from the Aboriginal word Djarii, meaning Figtree. Taree is situated on the banks of the Manning River in the heart of the beautiful Manning Valley, Biripi Country. A spectacular meeting point of coastal beauty and hinterland wonder, the Manning Valley is a gem on the NSW North Coast. Manning Hospital consists of 180 beds and, within, provides an excellent range of other specialist inpatient services including Emergency Medicine, Palliative Care, General Medicine, Paediatrics, General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Intensive Care, Psychiatry, Renal, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Anaesthesia, Rehabilitation Services, Urology and Oncology Services to the local communities of Taree, Forster, Tuncurry and surrounding Lower Mid North Coast.
Manning Base Hospital treats approximately 25,000 inpatients, 35,000 Emergency Department patients and 90,700 outpatients each year.
With a population of over 90,300 and with the median age of 52 years old the Lower Mid North Coast Sector is projected to have the highest growth in the group age of 85 years and over.

- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.
- The Doctor must be a minimum PGY4 at the commencement of this role and hold a minimum of 1 year Critical Care experience.
- Hold an interest towards a future career in Intensive or Acute Care Medicine (Emergency Medicine and Anaesthetics).
- Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising skills, judgment and expertise to provide a high standard of care to all patients.
- Demonstrated high level of organisational, communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to consult with patients and their families, multidisciplinary health care teams and broader internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated teamwork, time management and problem-solving skills as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated excellent communication skills (verbal and written) with patients, relatives, medical and nursing colleagues and other staff.
- Ability to work in a computerised environment.
