What you'll be doing
The primary purpose of the Trainee - Stage 1 in the Emergency Department is to provide clinical care, under appropriate supervision, to patients requiring emergency medical services in a complex clinical environment. This include both Adult and Paediatric patients. This position will provide experience in a critical care environment and have responsibilities and opportunities for autonomous practice commensurate with the level of experience of the incumbent.  

The Trainee - Stage 1 is expected to supervise and participate in teaching Junior Medical Officers and Medical Students, and taking part in research where appropriate.


  1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the medical board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.
  2. Proof of English language proficiency if not Australian University qualified or evidence of completion of English language proficiency to satisfactory requirements within three (3) months of date of application.
  3. Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team with an understanding of the roles of the doctor and other members of the healthcare team.
  4. ALS2 certificate preferred or commitment to complete within 12 months of commencing appointment. Ability to recognise the acutely unwell patient and to initiate immediate management and institute Basic Life Support. Completion of ALS training, or willingness to complete in the first 3 months of appointment.
  5. At least three years' post graduate experience in public hospital service (or equivalent)
  6. Excellent organisational and time management skills and ability to manage competing priorities in a complex environment.
  7. Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
  8. Ability and willingness to work at the facilities within the Network to deliver patient care and preparedness and ability to participate in 7 day per week 24-hour shift work roster.
