An exciting opportunity exists to join the Sexual Health Department at Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District

Where you'll be working
Wollongong Hospital is the Illawarra and Shoalhaven’s major referral and teaching hospital and has a bed base of more than 500. The campus, which incorporates the Illawarra Regional Cancer Care Centre, provides a comprehensive range of inpatient, outpatient and community-based services.

What you'll be doing
The Illawarra Sexual Health Service provides training for RACP Advanced Trainees in Sexual Health Medicine. The training program includes diagnosis and management of sexually transmissible infections, HIV, hepatitis C, long acting contraception, gender affirming care for transgender clients, genital dermatology, sexual function, early medical termination of pregnancy and the forensic examination and after care for sexual assault.
 
You will work in a multidisciplinary team with nurses and allied health practitioners. You will be expected to attend clinics in Wollongong, Port Kembla and Shoalhaven on a regular basis. Participation in the sexual assault roster is the only after-hours commitment required. There will be opportunities to undertake some interdisciplinary teaching and research. Close liaison with Public Health and Infectious Diseases is expected. There is no in-patient responsibility however you will be expected to provide advice to other health professionals in community clinics and the hospital setting particularly in relation to the management of sexually transmissible infections including HIV.

      Selection Criteria:

      1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
      2. Completion of RACP Basic training or in possession of a relevant Fellowship of another medical college such as RACGP or RANZCOG
      3. Enrolled as a Sexual Health or Infectious Diseases Trainee or other relevant training field in the RACP if applying as an Advanced Trainee, not essential for GPs seeking enhanced skill development
      4. Excellent communication skills - written and verbal
      5. Ability to communicate with patients from a wide range of culturally and linguistic backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders and members of the LGBTQI community
      6. Interest or experience in medical education and research
      7. Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
      8. Class C driver's license
