Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the Visiting Medical Officer position in the Western Sydney Local Health District. This position will be primarily located at Westmead Hospital within the Department of Interventional Neuroradiology.
The Interventional Radiology Service within the Department of Neurosurgery provides the full spectrum of INR procedures including clot retrieval and stroke management, aneurysm treatment by coil or stent and embolistaion.
Provide clinical management and treatment of patients under your care. This care will be provided within the scope of practice endorsed by the WSLHD Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee (MDAAC). The position will provide clinical consultation services and will contribute to the teaching and training of medical students, graduates and other health care professionals, and to research, evaluation and quality improvement activities within the District.
Applicants must have Australian Fellowship/Specialist Registration at time of applying.
The Successful candidate will be expected to:
· Provide a specialty service consistent within the defined scope of practice for Neurosurgical INR and where applicable in the community & provide a specialist consultation service as required by other Senior Medical Staff.
· Participate in an on-call roster determined by the Head of Department. When on call, a VMO must be within accessible distance in order to respond to urgent and precipitous events.
· Supervise and commit to accurate documentation and comply with patient admission and discharge policies: including documentation, planning of admission/discharge, day of procedure admission, timely discharge.
· Supervision of junior staff, formal handover, communication between clinicians with deteriorating patients, and meet standards of care.
· Provide clinical management and timely treatment of patients under your care both as an inpatient and where applicable in the community under the LHD ambulatory care model. Including, performing ward rounds as required for inpatient care as far as possible within the normal working hours of the Unit (8am – 5pm).
· Liaison with patient, carers and community health services and other government and non-government agencies in the coordinated provision of care to maximise good health outcomes.
· Attend departmental, divisional and LHD meetings as required. Participate in hospital and LHD committees which may include providing expert advice (in conjunction with colleagues) including equipment, clinical service development and future directions.
· Participate in at least 75% of your departmental Morbidity and Mortality meetings.
· Participate in clinical quality activities.
Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Health Services Act 1997 and Public Hospitals (Visiting Medical Officers Sessional Contracts) Determination 2014.
Essential Requirements for Appointment
1. Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the RACR, RACS or RACP or equivalent as provided for in the Health Insurance Act 1997. Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency. Must hold a current NSW Environment Protection Authority license (if applicable)
2. Sound clinical knowledge in Interventional Neuroradiology demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position
Selection Criteria
1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia. Applicants must have Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists, or Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, or Royal Australasian College of Physicians or recognition as a specialist by the Medical Board of Australia.

3. Eligibility for CCINR registration or equivalent (e.g. EBNI), within 6 months of position commencement
4. Demonstrated ability to practice neuro-interventional radiology procedures at a tertiary referral level.
5. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to lead and work within a multidisciplinary team environment.
6. Demonstrated commitment to teaching and published research as relevant to the position.
7. Demonstrated interest in quality improvement methodologies
