Registered Midwife - Aboriginal Maternal & Infant Health Service

This is an identified Aboriginal Position. Applicants must be of Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander descent, have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander cultures and have established links with their local Aboriginal community. An applicant’s race is a genuine occupational qualification and exemption is claimed under Section 14d of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977, NSW.

In this role, being a woman is also a genuine occupational qualification as authorised by Section 31 respectively of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977, NSW.

Demonstrated extensive experience and clinical skill as a registered midwife and demonstrated commitment to woman-centred midwifery care and awareness of cultural respect and sensitivity

Demonstrated understanding of the AMIHS Program and of broader Aboriginal Health issues including demonstrated understanding the of the unique medical, physical, social and emotional issues in Aboriginal maternal and infant health

Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of continuity of carer/primary health care models of midwifery care in addition to an explicit understanding of strengths-based philosophy

Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and as a member of a multidisplinary team with demonstrated effective teamwork and communication skills and demonstrated ability to organise and prioritise work

Current Driver’s Licence valid in NSW and willingness to use for work purposes
