What you'll be doing

As an Emergency Clerk, you will provide high-level administration, communication and professional frontline support to the Westmead Hospital Emergency Department, working a 24/7 rotating roster including weekends and public holidays. 

Key responsibilities will be to:

       Register and update patient details accurately in iPM and Firstnet databases, ensuring all health care records including data entry, filing and compilation are performed in a timely, accurate and confidential manner.

       Complete all necessary admission paperwork following appropriate legislative and policy guidelines, ensuring patients and relatives are provided with information regarding their election status.

       Liaise with nursing, clinical, senior management, executive staff and internal and external stakeholders to facilitate seamless delivery of quality care.

       Organise services such as health care interpreters, ambulance and hospital transport as required, and create and retrieve medical records via the electronic request system.

       Collect and receipt all monies relating to diagnostic, patient and inpatient charges, balancing cash float at the beginning and end of each shift in accordance with LHD Cash Handling Procedures.

Selection Criteria:

1.     Demonstrated extensive exceptional front-line customer service skills in a medical or hospital environment with ability to maintain strict confidentiality.

2.     Demonstrated computer literacy and data entry skills with the knowledge and use of IT applications including Microsoft Office and hospital based information systems (iPM, FirstNet, Cerner, Powerchart).

3.     Demonstrated high level interpersonal skills, high level verbal and written communication skills.

4.     An ability to work as an effective and efficient team member demonstrating initiative, judgement and contributing positively to team operations.

5.     Ability to work autonomously and actively participate within a multidisciplinary team.

6.     Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise work.

7.     Demonstrated ability to work a 24/7 rotating roster.
